RGS Worcester marks World Mental Health Week

RGS Worcester hosted activities to promote emotional wellbeing for both pupils and staff.

A highlight for younger pupils was the ‘Design a Buddy Bench’ competition, where pupils worked with the Design Technology Department to create a bench for the Lower School playground.

Display boards across the school served as reminders of the mental health support services available at RGS.

Assistant head and designated safeguarding lead Sofia Nicholls led assemblies focused on the importance of mental health, stressing the value of speaking up and supporting each other.

Pupils and staff wore yellow ribbons, the colour to mark Mental Health Day.

Beyond the annual World Mental Health Week, the school has said it offers year-round mental health and wellbeing resources, including relaxation sessions and designated wellbeing spaces.

The Relaxation Room in the Health Centre, staffed by former NHS nurses, provides a comforting environment, while the Welfare Room and individual counselling rooms offer pupils accessible spaces for support during breaks.

The school also runs a ‘Pets as Therapy’ programme, where a therapy dog is available to provide comfort and companionship.

The initiative, with the support of the Pastoral Team, aims to create a nurturing environment that supports the emotional and physical needs of pupils.

The school says emotional wellbeing is key to academic success.

By working with outside organisations and including wellbeing topics in PSHCE lessons, the school aims to help pupils build resilience, confidence, and self-belief.
