Nottinghamshire Healthcare receives funding for improvements

The Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has received £2.59m ($3.51m) from the UK Government’s Critical Infrastructure Risk (CIR) capital programme to carry out improvements at hospital buildings.

This funding will be used for crucial upgrades at several essential hospital sites, enhancing patient care and staff safety.

Investment will be directed towards urgent infrastructure enhancements at Rampton, Wathwood, Arnold Lodge, The Wells Road Centre, and Thorneywood Mount hospitals.

These facilities provide specialist mental health services and are integral to the healthcare system in the Midlands and South Yorkshire.

This funding is a component of a wider government initiative to enhance NHS buildings and infrastructure.

The CIR capital programme focuses on addressing the most important infrastructure vulnerabilities within the NHS estate.

The improvements will include fire safety systems, energy efficiency, water infrastructure, and electrical network upgrades, which are essential for reducing maintenance risks and backlogs.

At Rampton High Secure Hospital, the investment will facilitate fire safety system upgrades. The Wells Road Centre in Mapperley will see the replacement of obsolete machinery while Arnold Lodge in Leicester will benefit from enhanced electrical and energy systems, aligning with the Trust’s sustainability objectives.

Nottinghamshire Healthcare chief executive Ifti Majid said: “This funding is fantastic news for our patients, service users, and colleagues.

“It allows us to fast-track improvements that make our hospitals safer, greener, and more welcoming places to receive care and to work. It’s another milestone in our journey to deliver outstanding mental health and community services across the Midlands and South Yorkshire.”

The staged upgrade works are scheduled to begin later this year and are anticipated to be completed by early 2026.

Planning is in progress with clinical and operational teams to minimise service disruptions during the upgrade process.

These efforts are part of the Trust’s broader Estates Strategy and Green Plan, which aims to meet the wider NHS sustainability goals and the Trust’s vision for resilient healthcare settings.
