Mental health charity unveils unique Christmas Card collection designed by local art icons

Mental Health Aberdeen (MHA) is excited to announce the launch of a new Christmas card and bookmark collection, designed in collaboration with the acclaimed Graffiti Grannies. This limited-edition collection features three exclusive, hand-drawn Christmas card designs inspired by the beauty of Aberdeen and aims to raise funds to support MHA’s vital free counselling services for children, young people, and adults across the region.

The Graffiti Grannies, otherwise known as Doreen Davidson, Irene Alves, Dorothy Bothwell and Martine Shepherd, are known for their creative flair and dedication to Aberdeen’s local culture, have poured their passion for art and Aberdeen into these festive designs. Each card showcases the Grannies’ unique artistry, perfectly capturing the spirit of the city and the warmth of the holiday season. This is the Graffiti Grannies’ first Christmas collaboration with MHA, and they’ve also created original bookmarks as part of the collection.

Every card purchase supports Mental Health Aberdeen’s extensive counselling services, which provide over 22,000 free counselling sessions annually to children, young people, and adults facing mental health challenges. The funds raised through this Christmas card initiative will contribute to maintaining and expanding these critical, free-to-access services in the local community.

Graeme Kinghorn, CEO of Mental Health Aberdeen, expressed his appreciation, saying: “I was delighted when the Graffiti Grannies agreed to support MHA by working on an original art display for us. They were an absolute joy to collaborate with, and their infectious enthusiasm led to the design of Christmas cards and bookmarks, now available for sale to benefit MHA’s services. MHA is hugely appreciative of their help, and we hope to work with them again soon.

“These cards are the perfect way for people in the North East to spread Christmas cheer while contributing to a great cause.”

The bespoke hand drawn designs for the MHA Christmas cards came from the grannies love of Aberdeen and its architecture, and MHA’s aim to provide support to anyone facing mental health challenges.

Martine Shepherd, one of the Graffiti Grannies, when speaking about the process said: “Everyone is a ‘VIP’. We have a very fair exchange of ideas during the creation process and everyone’s ideas are incorporated. It is great to watch the vision come to reality, and we’re so happy to be able to support MHA in this way.”

This Christmas collection is available for purchase at the MHA Charity Shop, located at 231 Union Street in Aberdeen, and the One to One Charity Shop in Aboyne.
