Isle of Wight men’s mental health project to launch in 2025

The Isle of Wight charity, which focuses on creative wellbeing, received funding from The Baring Foundation to start this initiative in January 2025.

The project, in collaboration with Pan Together, will offer weekly creative workshops at the Downside Community Centre.

These workshops aim to provide men with a safe space to learn new artistic skills, engage in open conversations, and foster new relationships.

Community development manager Matt Hitt said: “This is an amazing opportunity to create a new project. Men’s mental health matters, and the arts offer a powerful creative outlet that can help foster emotional resilience and strength, helping men connect with themselves and others while engaging in a meaningful artistic project.”

Since 1987, Independent Arts has been recognised for using the arts to enhance health and wellbeing, with their efforts acknowledged by both health professionals and artists.

To mark International Men’s Day and Men’s Mental Health Month, a consultation session will be held on Tuesday, November 19, from 1pm to 3pm at the Creative Hub on Newport High Street.

Attendees can enjoy a cup of tea while learning more about the initiative, sharing their thoughts, and registering interest.
